Partnering with the Living Stones of the Holy Land
Partners in the GospelAn important part of our pilgrimages is meeting and talking with the “Living Stones” of the Holy Land—the local Christians whose faith, witness, and ministries continue in the land where Jesus walked.
During our time in Israel and Palestine, we normally visit two local Christian ministries that are serving their communities in significant and practical ways. These visits are a great encouragement to the local church, and they help our pilgrims understand more deeply the life, challenges, and witness of Christians in the Holy Land today. At times, we provide an opportunity for pilgrims to make a voluntary love offering in support of one of these ministries. Any contribution is entirely optional. Sunday WorshipOn Sunday Mornings we join a local Anglican congregations for their worship. This gives pilgrims an opportunity not only to visit holy places, but also to join in the living worship of the Church in the Holy Land today. Commended Local MinistriesThe following are examples of local Christian ministries we have come to know and believe are worthy of support:
Ibillin Centre Supporting the work of the Mar Elias Educational Institutions. This work, begun and led by Archbishop Elias Chacour promotes peace with justice among Israelis and Palestinians through education, dialogue, and shared community life. St. Luke’s Anglican Hospital, Nablus An Anglican hospital serving the people of Nablus and the surrounding region through compassionate medical care. The Anglican Diocese of Jerusalem operates a significant number of hospitals and schools throughout the Holy Land. Al-Shurooq School for Blind Children, Beit Jala A Christian ministry in Bethlehem, serving blind and visually impaired children, offering education, care, and support for families. The Princess Basma Centre, Jerusalem An Anglican ministry serving Palestinian children with disabilities, while also supporting and empowering their families. Founded in 1964, the centre is located on the Mount of Olives. Tent of Nations, between Bethlehem and Hebron A 100 Acre Palestinian family farm offering educational programs for children and young people, while promoting peace, justice, and reconciliation. A sign at the entrance says it all: "We refuse to be enemies." |
